Foundation Transition Program and Important Dates
Once you have accepted your offer of enrolment, you and your child will be invited to take part in our Foundation Familiarisation and Transition Program. We take great pride in helping new students settle in, and we work hard to make the transition from kindergarten to school as smooth and positive as possible.
Our program begins in Term 4 and runs through to formal transition sessions in November. It’s designed to help children and families get to know our school, our teachers, and each other before the first day of school — so that everyone feels ready, welcome, and excited.
Please note that students must be enrolled to attend familiarisation and transition sessions.

Enrolment FAQs
-
As a government school, school fees are not compulsory. Some families are not able to contribute. The financial support we do receive as part of our parent contributions enable us to offer the resources and programs that we do and benefit our students directly.
-
The school will confirm whether your application is accepted in line with the annual Department of Education set timeline for foundation enrolments. At this time, families will receive an email with a letter of offer and details on how to accept your enrolment place. Families who are unsuccessful will also receive an email with this acknowledgement.
-
The capacity of the school to accept enrolments outside the zone is dependent on the number of enrolment applications for the year. Generally, in years 1-6 our school does not have capacity to accept enrolments outside the zone. Where we do have capacity and there are limited places, priority will be given to families living closer to the school. All students are guaranteed a place at their locally zoned school. Further details about enrolment can be found here.

At Moonee Ponds Primary School we have a thorough transition program that has long proven successful. This includes two familiarisation sessions, three transition mornings, resources to support the transition over the summer break and an information night at the start of the school year. This comprehensive transition program ensure students begin the year feeling confident and ready to begin their new learning journey. It also supports parents and carers to feel connected and supported coming into their new school community.

Foundation students will generally start a week later than the rest of the school. This enables the Foundation teachers to schedule an individual conference with each student. Parents and carers will receive an appointment time where they will bring their child into school to work with the teacher. The purpose of this conference is for the teacher to engage the students with simple assessment activities, and to begin to get to know each student before the start of the school year.
Parents and carers will receive information about their child’s class, foundation teacher and individual conference appointment time in December (prior to the school holidays).
